Optical brighteners are added substances that impart brightness to polymers and increases the level of whiteness. These brightening agents ingest light in the UV spectrum and produce light in the blue region of the visible spectrum to yield a brighter and fresher appearance to the plastic. Optical brighteners are utilized in engineering plastics like thermoplastic polyurethanes, polyvinylchlorides (PVC), styrene homo and copolymers and polyolefins among others.
